Fed: Brown condemns Labor on forests policy

Greens senator BOB BROWN has condemned Labor for continuing to support regional forest
agreements.

Opposition environment spokesman NICK BOLKUS has said Labor policy remains linked to
the regional forest agreement process that Labor began.

Senator BOLKUS has told the Ten Network Labor is committed to a legitimate sustainable
RFA process.

He says criteria developed several years ago recognised the need to protect old-growth
forests to a certain level.

Old-growth logging has been stopped in Western Australia but continues in Tasmania,
Victoria and New South Wales.

Senator BROWN says Senator BOLKUS'S stance means the death warrant for the greater
forests in the southern hemisphere.

He says 80 per cent of Australians want action to stop the destruction of old-growth
forests and says both major parties are as bad as each other on environmental issues.

Senator BROWN says there's a need for more Greens in parliament to influence Labor
if it does win office, to make environmentally sound decisions.
