TAS: Security precautions will help Hobart party

HOBART, Dec 30 AAP - New post-Bali security precautions will help Hobart party into the New Year.

The city's biggest bash is around the docks and the adjacent historic Salamanca Place,where thousands converge to celebrate.

This year, as a security precaution, police have banned vehicles from the area.

The city council is delighted, with Mayor Rob Vallentine saying it should add to theparty atmosphere.

Major dockside attractions are the Sydney to Hobart race yachts, most of which stayon for the celebrations, and Taste of Tasmania, the annual celebration of the island'sfine food and wine.

There will also be the traditional fireworks at midnight.
