Qld: Beattie expresses sympathy to family of train crash victims
BRISBANE, Dec 2 AAP - Queensland Premier Peter Beattie today expressed his sympathy
for the relatives and friends of those killed or injured in the New South Wales train
crash.
"I extend my sympathy to all the families and friends involved," Mr Beattie said.
The premier was speaking after a peak-hour train crash west of Sydney this morning
in which as many as 12 people were feared dead and scores injured.
Mr Beattie said Queensland's extensive rail system was one of the safest in the world,
and Queensland commuters should not be concerned about a similar crash occurring.
"It's very, very safe," Mr Beattie said.
"I mean, occasionally, you get derailments, normally in rural areas, and they're pretty rare."
